Dessert Theatre 2020
A Long-Standing Tradition
This year marked the 33rd year of a very special annual partnership between the third graders of St. John Lutheran School in Rochester and the Thespians of Lutheran Northwest!
In 1987, Lutheran Northwest Drama Director, Mr. Gary Nelson, arranged for the high school students to put on a performance of plays written by individual third graders at St. John. St. John parents provided delicious desserts for all to enjoy after the performance. A tradition was born! “Dessert Theatre” has been a fixture of the Lutheran Northwest Drama Season ever since.
Each year, some of the Lutheran Northwest students who participate as actors in Dessert Theatre can recall having been in the playwright role in this event when they were St. John students. This year, there was even a second generation St. John playwright in the group who gathered on-stage at the end of the performance!
Let’s hope this fun tradition, highlighting the creative skills of both sets of students, carries on for another 33 years!
