Spring Athletic Awards

We’re excited to share our Lutheran Northwest 2021 Spring Athletic Awards!

Congratulations and thank you to each of our Crusaders that participated in athletics this year.

Also, thank you to the families and Lutheran Northwest Boosters that support our athletes each year.


Dennis Haberhern Award

Dennis Haberhern, a former athletic director at Lutheran High Northwest understood the importance of high school athletics. He not only promoted excellence in athletics, but he also encouraged students to be involved in as many sports as possible. This award is given to any athlete who participated in 3 or more sports, in 3 different seasons during 2020-2021. This year’s recipients are:

McDaniel Academic Award

Heather McDaniel was an outstanding athlete at Lutheran High Northwest. She participated in basketball, volleyball, and track and field. She had many state honors while at Lutheran High Northwest and played four years of volleyball at Michigan State University. Although she was an accomplished athlete, Heather also maintained top-notch grades. Heather earned 11 varsity letters while at Lutheran High Northwest, she also was named to the academic all-conference team during every varsity season she competed, maintaining a 4.071 GPA. Heather’s example of what it means to be a student-athlete has inspired this award. The McDaniel Academic Award is given to any athlete who participated in 3 or more sports, in 3 different seasons during 2020-2021 and maintained a 3.0 or better GPA. This year’s recipients are:

Athlete of the Year

“The all-around athlete”  - The athlete that has shown great effort and ability in the area of athletics. Underclassmen are eligible for nomination if participation awards or letters are earned in at least 2 different sports. Any senior is eligible for nomination if letters are earned in at least 2 different sports, and at least one of those must be earned during their senior year.

Crusader of the Year

The athlete who best exemplifies the ideals to which all athletes should aspire – such as to improve and excel, a willingness to learn, a never say die attitude, an ability to cooperate with others, and to set a Christian example for the entire student body and the community.  Any athlete who receives a participation award, or varsity letter is eligible for this award.

Iron Crusader

This award is given to any senior athlete who as earned 10 or more varsity letters at Lutheran Northwest.
