Senior Spotlight: Matthew Gunn
A 4.0+ student at Lutheran Northwest, Matthew Gunn is the Lutheran Northwest Class of 2022 Valedictorian. His future plans include attending Michigan State University to study Actuarial Science. His home congregation is Our Shepherd Birmingham, and Matthew also attended Our Shepherd for grade school.
Matthew participated in National Honor Society while at Lutheran Northwest (including serving as Treasurer) and is receiving our STEM endorsement in Engineering. A member of the Leadership Cohort, Matthew has been recognized by the faculty of Lutheran Northwest with a number of awards in his four years, including the Leadership Award, the Responsibility Award, and, just this year, the Scholar Award, Scholar Athlete Award, and Physical Science Department Award. As Valedictorian, Matthew is also the recipient of the Best and Brightest Award from WXYZ Channel 7 Detroit.
In addition to his outstanding academic achievements at Lutheran Northwest, Matthew participated in four years of Baseball, three years of Cross Country, two years of Basketball, and one year of Football while a student here.
What made your experience at Lutheran Northwest special?
I enjoyed the small class sizes and being able to form real relationships with students as well as with my teachers.
What will you miss most about your time at Lutheran Northwest?
I will miss all my friends and playing sports.
Was there a teacher/staff member that had a positive impact on you?
Mr. Topel, because he really prepared me for college and was a great mentor to me.
What qualities or skills are you taking away from your experience at Lutheran Northwest?
The ability to communicate with others and work hard.
