Senior Spotlight: Nathan Halstead

A 4.0+ student at Lutheran Northwest, Nathan Halstead is the Lutheran Northwest Class of 2024 Co-Valedictorian. His future plans include attending Hope College to study Biology or Biomedical Engineering on the Pre-Med track. Nathan’s home church is Our Shepherd Birmingham and he attended Our Shepherd for grade school.

Nathan participated in National Honor Society while at Lutheran Northwest (including serving as NHS Vice-President this year) and is receiving our STEM Biomedical and Engineering endorsements. A member of the Leadership Cohort, Nathan has been recognized by the faculty of Lutheran Northwest with a number of awards in his four years, including the Social Studies Department Award, the Academic Curiosity Award, the Spirituality Award, the Service Award, and, just this year, the Math Department Award. Nathan was recognized by the College Board in the National Merit Scholarship Competition with a letter of Commendation.

In addition to his outstanding academic achievements at Lutheran Northwest, Nathan was a member of both our Varsity Soccer and Golf teams, serving as team captain for Soccer this year. He earned All-District Team and All-Conference Team honors for Soccer and was on the All-Academic Team all four years for both Soccer and Golf. An active member of our Lutheran Northwest Student Council, Nathan served as Senior Class President. Nathan also enjoyed being part of our Ski Club.

Nathan, what is your favorite thing about Lutheran Northwest?

My favorite thing about Lutheran Northwest is the purpose behind our school. We aren’t just going through the motions of education. Our teachers are truly trying to prepare the next generation of Christians to enter the world. There’s a huge emphasis on preparing students in both their faith and academics and, as a result, Lutheran Northwest’s teachers and students have a purpose behind them that very few other schools can match.
